Ultrasound is a useful imaging modality for assessing steatosis. However, conventional standard B-mode ultrasound is qualitative, and has limitations such as operator and system dependence of image quality and subjective interpretation. New quantitative ultrasound and artificial intelligence methods have emerged as a more promising approach for liver fat quantification, showing better accuracy and precision in recent clinical studies. Adoption of these new methods in the clinics will benefit patient care. Further education is needed to bring awareness of the new methods' availability, understanding of their working principles, and familiarity with their strengths and limitations.
